The Plateau Government said it would establish four additional markets in Jos and Bukuru.

The State Commissioner for Commerce, Helen Maina, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Thursday that the markets had become necessary to accommodate more traders.
According to her, more business activities had sprung up in hitherto quiet areas which called for more structures to meet up with rising economic activities.
She noted that the two existing markets - the Jos Terminus and Kabong Satellite - had become grossly inadequate.
The commissioner said that the new markets would be cited in Rantiya, Laminga, Apavee/New Market and Bukuru.
She added that the main market, which was destroyed by fire, would either be rebuilt or turned into a shopping mall, depending on what the local government finally decides.
Maina said government had also taken steps to build a permanent trade fair centre which would serve as a general purpose centre for the state.
According to her, such centre was long overdue ``because of the huge economic potential of the state. My ministry has taken steps to get a site for the complex.
"We have identified a number of sites based on their proximity to the airport and we are going to submit our findings to the State Executive Council for approval," she said.
She added that the acquisition of the land was in the state’s 2013 budget while actual construction would be carried out in 2014.
